Driver Safety Bonus Plan

​​​ ​DSB Key Points (Effective 12-01-2022):

​​​- DSB Period: 12/1 thru 11/30
- DSB Calculation: 5% gross load pay LESS trainee pay, rookie pay, PTO and any DSB deduction(s)
- DSB quarterly reviews for Traffic Citations, Policy Violations, Accident/Incidents
- Eligibility: Driver must be actively employed by RTL on May 31st of the current DSB period for H1 Payout, and November 30th of the current DSB period for H2 Payout and Consecutive Year Add-On.
- Mix/Spill/Damage/Mis-load/Mis-delivery/Chargeback Value Determination: $100/minimum up to actual cost or remaining DSB balance, whichever is more for driver-caused events.

DSB Deductions for Maintenance & Operation Violations

​(​relative to DOT Citations, RTL Audits and Observations)

The following items are charged as DSB payout deductions at a rate of $50.00 per occurrence and $500.00 per Out-of-Service events IF NOT previously reported by eDVIR:

  • Underinflated tires (by RTL inflation pressure policy as posted at each terminal)
  • Tires that are under 2/32” tread depth on drive and trailer axles
  • Steer tires that are below 4/32” tread depth
  • Not having the correct paperwork in the tractor (drug test forms, insurance cab cards, IFTA registration, HAZMAT registration)
  • Not having a blank logbook in the tractor
  • Hubs that or low or empty of oil
  • Missing lug nut indicators
  • Cracked windshields
  • Hoses, bucket, and cones not strapped down
  • Placards unreadable / condition
  • Fluid levels low or empty
  • Fire extinguisher issues (not charged, inoperable condition, unsecured)

The following violations are charged as DSB payout deductions at a rate of $50.00 per occurrence PLUS the cost of the citation paid by RTL:

  • Seatbelt/Speeding/Stoplight violations
  • Improper lane change violations
  • Restricted left lane violations
  • Other moving violations that result in driver citations
